Dr. Cardinal Newton was adjudged 2018 second best Dental Surgeon in Ghana during the 4th National Medical Excellence Awards 2018.

Dr. Cardinal Newton is a Senior Specialist and the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

He holds an Executive Professional Certificate in Health Systems Management from Pentecost University, MBA in Health Service Management (University of Ghana). He obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Oral Implantology (University of Ghana & University of Frankfurt AM MAIN, Germany), Certificate in Hospital Administration Management from GIMPA, Master in Dental Sciences: Restorative Dentistry (University of Liverpool, UK) and Doctor of Dental Science from Higher Institute of Medical Sciences, Cienfuegos. Villa Clara. Cuba.

He has undertaken several trainings and workshops in Research Prioritization, Research Methodology and Operation, Corporate Communication and Branding Prospects, Professional Networking for Business and Customer Care, Mass Emergency Medicine, Improving Patient Care and Safety in Hospitals, Project Cycle Management, MAAT/ART, General Emergency Care, Medical Law and Ethics, Regulation of Medical and Dental Practice in Ghana, Oral Health of Ghanaian Child and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Basic Life Support), among others.

Until his appointment as Ag. Chief Executive Officer of Sunyani Teaching Hospital, he was the Medical Director of Bono Regional Hospital, Sunyani. He has worked at Eastern Regional Hospital, Oda Government Hospital and has also worked as the Regional Focal Person on Oral Health Services at Regional Health Directorate, Koforidua. He was also a Visiting Lecturer at College of Health Sciences, Kintampo.

Dr. Newton has professional affiliations with Ghana Dental Association and Ghana Medical Association. He has also undertaken numerous research projects in Dental Aetiology, Dental Autotransplantation, Oral Maxillofacial, Mental Health, among others.

He has extensive experience in the Training of House Officers and Dental Surgeons and also participated in the development of curricula for various programs in Oral Health Manpower Development; Physician Assistant Oral Health, Registered Dental Surgery Assistant and Dental Technologists’ Program.
