Observed every year on 12 December, International Universal Health Coverage Day marks the anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s unanimous 2012 endorsement of universal health coverage (UHC), the principle that everyone, everywhere should have access to quality, affordable health care. The UN formally proclaimed 12 December as UHC Day in 2017 under resolution 72/138.
Each year, UHC advocates use the day to share the stories of people still waiting for access to care, highlight progress made so far, and call on governments to make bigger, smarter investments in health systems as part of the global push toward UHC by 2030.
