Accra, Ghana

Ghana joined the global community on 25 April 2026 to mark World Malaria Day under the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.” Activities in Accra included youth engagement, digital advocacy, and a Ghana Health Service health walk from the University of Ghana Business School to the Sports Directorate Park, alongside community screening exercises held by health partners in regional markets.

Ghana has cut malaria deaths by 98 percent since 2011, from 3,259 deaths that year to 52 in 2025, though the disease remains endemic, with between 4.3 million and 6.6 million cases recorded nationally across 2023–2024. Globally, an estimated 2.3 billion malaria cases and 14 million deaths have been prevented since 2000, even as 282 million cases and roughly 610,000 deaths were still recorded worldwide in 2024, most in sub-Saharan Africa.
