Ghana Health Service (GHS) commemorated World Tuberculosis Day on 24 March 2026 under the global theme “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Communities, Powered by the People,” reaffirming the country’s commitment to ending TB through strategic investment, stronger partnerships, and expanded access to diagnosis and treatment.
As part of the commemoration, the Ga East Municipal Health Directorate held a free TB screening exercise for traders and residents around the Kwabenya Market in Accra, one of several community-level activities held alongside the national event. Ghana recorded more than 17,000 TB cases between January and October 2025, with men most affected; the National TB Programme’s 2026 priorities include closing the gap in pediatric TB diagnosis, where identified child cases (around 4.5%) still fall well short of the roughly 8–10% the World Health Organization estimates should be diagnosed.
